The Back of Bourke is more than a geographic location, it's part of the Australian language, part of the folklore. Bourke provoked author Henry Lawson to write after his visit in 1893, 'If you know Bourke, you know Australia.' Be you a photographer, naturalist, historian, reader of bush literature, bird watcher, visitor from overseas or just an Aussie looking to discover your roots, pack up your swag and come 'Back o' Bourke'

The best way to really get your bearings in Bourke is to start at the Tourist Information Centre. A highly informative display will orient you to Bourke's past and present and the friendly staff there will help you with all the necessary information to make your stay enjoyable. Catch up on Bourke Gossip and Coming Events at the Bourke Tourism Message Board.

'Back of Bourke' mini bus tours leave the Bourke Tourist Information Centre each Monday to Friday at 2 pm and Saturday at 9:30 am.

In the meantime take a virtual mini tour by exploring this site and discovering for yourself just how accessible the real Australian Outback is from Bourke. Follow Lawson's footsteps and learn about the real Australia.
